Refer a Family

We support parents and relative caregivers facing a crisis of poverty and at risk of child welfare involvement or foster care —families doing their best to care for children but without the resources to meet their basic needs.

Who Can Make a Referral

Referrals are accepted from the following Cobb County agencies, individuals, and faith communities:

  • Child Protective Services (CPS)

  • Guardians ad Litem attorney (GAL)

  • Parent attorney

  • Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) coordinator

  • Cobb County & Marietta Schools

  • Faith leaders

  • Families previously served can refer friends

Referral Eligibility

Together with Families accepts referrals, as capacity allows, for families who meet the following criteria:

  • The family is experiencing a current crisis of poverty

  • The primary barriers are unmet basic needs related to poverty

  • The children live in the home of the caregiver being referred

  • The family lives in Cobb County or within 15 miles of Cobb County

  • The family is at risk of child welfare involvement or foster care because of unmet basic needs such as housing, utilities, food, transportation, or essential household items

***We are not able to serve every family referred to us. Support is based on capacity and fit with our mission. If we are unable to help, we will do our best to share other resources that may be a better fit.

To make a referral, email information about the situation to sdonegan@together-families.org.

Special Circumstances: Reunification and relative placement support

Together with Families may provide limited support on a case-by-case basis when a child is approved to return home or remain with relatives, and poverty-related barriers are the final step standing in the way.

These referrals may be considered when:

  • A child has been approved to return home or remain with a relative

  • Housing is already in place at the time of referral

  • The remaining barriers are poverty-related and can be addressed with limited support

  • The referral comes through a guardian ad litem, CASA coordinator, parent attorney, or child protective services

Support may include:

  • Beds and bedding

  • Limited help with utilities or other essential basic needs

  • Hygiene, cleaning, and baby supplies

  • Connection to Family Café

  • Referrals to trusted community partners

The goal is to help families reach a minimum sufficient level of care so children can safely return home or remain with relatives, while keeping our primary focus on prevention.

***Reunification and relative placement support is limited and considered on a case-by-case basis.
