A Peer-Led, Family-Centered Model
At Together with Families, we believe poverty should never be the reason a child enters foster care. That’s why our Family Support and KinCare programs provide rapid, compassionate help within 24-48 hours—so children stay safely with the people who love them most.
What makes us unique is our peer-led model: families are supported by trained peers—parents and relatives who have lived through crisis themselves. This builds trust from the start, replaces shame with dignity, and creates a cycle of healing and leadership.
Impact: 100% of children supported by Together with Families have remained safely with family and out of foster care.
How Our Emergency Programs Work
Both Family Support and KinCare programs provide:
Rapid response within 24-48 hours when families face a crisis of poverty
Address urgent needs like housing, food, health care, child care, medical care, and transportation
Provide flexible financial support when no other option exists
Access to our Hub, a Family Resource Center, where families receive concrete support to meet immediate needs such as beds, clothing, hygiene products, baby supplies, and more.
Connect with trustworthy resources in our ecosystem
Peer-led systems and resource navigation from parents and relatives with lived experience
Set family-driven goals for stability and growth
90 days of intensive and relational coaching to help families stabilize and build long-term stability
The difference is in the moment of crisis:
Family Support helps parents stabilize their situation when poverty puts their children at risk of foster care.
KinCare responds when a child is placed with relatives and can’t live with their parents.
Two paths, one goal: keeping children safe with family, supported with dignity, and surrounded by a loving community.
Parents are also invited into our GROW Together Community—support groups, Family Cafés, and joyful events. Many later join the GROW Leaders Apprenticeship, a paid opportunity to train and lead others.
Unique Impact: Parents and relative caregivers who once needed support often become leaders, strengthening the community for others.
The Hub: Healing, Uplifting, Belonging
All of this takes place at The Hub, our Family Resource Center. Families describe it as more than a building—it is where they heal, where they feel uplifted, and where they know they belong.
