We Prevent Foster Care—By Responding to the Real Crisis: Poverty

Family Support Program
Emergency Support to Prevent Foster Care for Parents
If your family is —struggling to pay rent, afford child care, or keep the lights on—you are not alone. The Family Support Program is here to help you stabilize quickly, meet your basic needs, and build a more secure future for your children. We work with families referred by schools, child protective services, or other community partners whose children are at risk of being separated from them due to a crisis of poverty.
When you enroll, you will be paired with a Peer Support Navigator—someone who’s been through hard times too, and is trained to walk alongside you. You will work together for three months to:
Tackle urgent needs like housing, food, health care, transportation, and child care
Receive flexible financial assistance when needed
Set goals that matter to your family
Get connected to trustworthy resources through our network of partners
You will also be invited to join our GROW Together Community—with support groups, Family Cafés, joyful events, and a network of families who have been where you are. When you are ready, you can even apply to our GROW Leaders Apprenticeship, a paid opportunity to train, lead, and support others. Our goal is simple: to keep families safely together and prevent foster care—by meeting real needs with real support and love.
KinCare Program
Emergency Support to Prevent Foster Care When a Relative Steps In
When something happens and you are the one stepping up—whether you are a grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, or older sibling—you shouldn’t have to do it alone. If a child comes into your care suddenly, they may show up with very little. But they shouldn’t arrive to nothing. That’s where we come in. Our KinCare Program is here to support you when you are struggling financially and experiencing a crisis of poverty—quickly and with dignity. Families are referred to us by Child Protective Services, a child’s attorney or GAL, a CASA, or a trusted school partner when a child is placed with a relative during a crisis. We respond within 24 to 48 hours to help stabilize your home and meet the child’s immediate needs. Every child receives a full setup to help them feel safe and cared for with:
A new bed
Fresh bedding
A special toy
Clothing, food, hygiene supplies, and more
Then we walk with you—step by step—as you get your footing. You will be matched with a Kinship Navigator, a trained peer. They will meet with you weekly for three months to:
Help you navigate systems and supports
Offer flexible financial support
Work with you on your family’s goals
Connect you to housing, legal help, child care, transportation, health care, and more
You’ll also be invited into our GROW Together Community, where you can meet other caregivers through peer led Family Cafés, support groups, and joyful events. Once you are ready to take the next step, you can apply for our paid Apprenticeship Training Program for kinship caregivers, parents, and youth 17 and older. We know how much love it takes to step up—and how overwhelming it can feel.
That’s why we are here: to make sure you are seen, supported, and never alone.
No child should be separated from their family because of poverty.
With the right support, they don’t have to be.
All of this takes place at The HUB—Healing, Uplifting, and Belonging—our family resource center where families can heal, feel uplifted, and know they belong.
