Community Healing

Trusted relationships, practical support, and family leadership so families are not alone

Family Café Community Model

Family Café is a peer-led model where families build trusted relationships, develop practical skills for stability, and grow leadership that strengthens families and communities.

Families facing poverty are often navigating difficult challenges while feeling alone. Family Café gatherings bring families together around a shared meal where parents, caregivers, children, and youth connect with others who understand what they are going through.

After the meal, children and youth participate in their own activities while parents and caregivers join small group conversations. Families return month after month, and relationships grow stronger with each gathering.

Over time, parents strengthen protective factors such as social connection, encouragement, and shared problem solving. They also build practical skills and confidence that help families stay steady through difficult seasons.

When families are surrounded by trusted relationships and peer support, they are better able to navigate challenges earlier and maintain stability at home.

Why Connection Matters

Research consistently shows that families are more likely to stay stable when they have strong relationships, trusted community support, and opportunities to build confidence and leadership.

Family Café gatherings create spaces where these protective factors grow naturally through relationships, shared experiences, and parent leadership.

Built with Families

Family Café is built with families, not for families.

Parents and caregivers help shape conversations, welcome new families, and guide the direction of the gatherings. Many cafés are eventually supported by parent leaders who help host the space and support other families.

Family Café is a community-rooted model that can be implemented by local organizations to strengthen relationships, build parent leadership, and support family stability across communities.

Why Your Support Matters

Behind every Family Café is the support that helps families and relative caregivers gather, connect, and grow:

  • A shared meal that creates a welcoming place to come together

  • Youth programming so teens have their own space to connect and participate

  • Childcare so parents and relative caregivers can focus on conversation, support, and community

  • Transportation support so families can participate without added barriers

  • Supplies and practical resources that help ease immediate stress

  • Paid Apprentice roles that turn lived experience into leadership, income, and support for other families

Give Today: your gift helps families and relative caregivers build support, stay connected, and create the kind of community where children and their caregivers can grow and heal together.
